Kajian dalam mata kuliah ini akan memberikan pengetahuan kepada mahasiswa tentang sejarah perkembangan sosial masyarakat Inggris dan bahasa serta hasil karya sastra Inggris dari periode Inggris Kuno (Old English) sampai dengan periode Inggris Moderen (Modern English). Disamping itu, mata kuliah ini juga mewajibkan mahasiswa untuk menganalisis secara sederhana hasil karya sastra Inggris dan Amerika yang berberntuk prosa, drama, maupun puisi. Untuk mencapai penguasaan ini, mahasiswa diwajibkan mengkaji dan berlatih untuk menganalisis contoh-contoh hasil karya sastra Inggris dan Amerika atau sastra Inggris yang lainnya yang berbentuk prosa, drama, serta puisi.
