\nMata kuliah Perencanaan Kota berisi pembahasan tentang aspek-aspek perencanaan kota secara umum yaitu perencanaan sebagai proses untuk menentukan tindakan masa depan yang tepat melalui urutan pilihan, dengan memperhitungkan sumber daya yang tersedia. Perencanaan kota (city\/town planning) atau perencanaan perkotaan (urban planning) merupakan salah satu jenis aktivitas perencanaan yang mempunyai hierarki atau skala spasial kota\/perkotaan. Dalam hal ini perencanaan kota merupakan cabang dari perencanaan wilayah dan kota (regional and city planning). Ruang lingkup perencanaan perkotaan pada masa perkembangannya berorientasi pada aspek fisik dan spasial. Oleh karenanya, Perencanaan Kota secara spesifik difokuskan pada salah satu jenis perencanaan yang berdasarkan skala spasial yakni Perencanaan Kota atau Perencanaan Wilayah Perkotaan.
